The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has entered the third phase of its ongoing crackdown on the illegal use of mobile phone SIM cards. The latest step involves the permanent blocking of all SIMs registered under the names of deceased individuals.

    Deadline for SIM Transfers

According to PTA sources cited by ProPakistani, SIMs registered in the names of deceased persons will be permanently blocked if not transferred by October 15. To avoid deactivation, the PTA is urging the relatives of deceased individuals to transfer ownership of these SIMs before the deadline.

    Required Documents for Transfer

To complete the transfer process, family members must provide the following documents:

    • A valid death certificate of the deceased
    • Proof of relationship with the deceased
    • The original SIM card
    • Proof of the current SIM’s status

These documents must be presented to the relevant mobile service provider to transfer the SIM ownership to a living individual.

    Previous Phases of the Crackdown

This is not the first step in PTA’s campaign against SIM misuse. Earlier phases included the deactivation of SIMs issued on expired ID cards prior to 2017, as well as blocking around 70,000 SIMs registered with canceled or fake ID cards. This effort is part of the PTA’s wider goal to prevent the illegal use of mobile phone services and to ensure that SIM ownership records are accurate and up to date.

    Conclusion

As the PTA continues its crackdown, it has reiterated the importance of complying with the new regulations to avoid SIM deactivation. With the October 15 deadline fast approaching, individuals with SIMs registered in the names of deceased persons are encouraged to act swiftly to avoid permanent closure of these accounts.
